Location
This photo was taken In Greece, Kerkini lake.Time
Very lucky with the weather: enough sunshine to have fast shutter-times. In the morning we floated on the lake in a small fisher-boat, when suddenly a pelican landed on the railing at only 1,5 metres from me, apparently ready to eat me or at least my camera.Lighting
Weather conditions were sufficiently bright to freeze the moment.Equipment
For bird photography I normally use Nikon cameras with 70-200 mm and 600 mm lenses.Inspiration
Things happened very fast: I was only able to take a few successive shots and was lucky to get this bizarre expression before the pelican took off again after a few seconds, unsatisfied with its dinner.Editing
As always a little post-processing (mostly cropping and exposure adjustments) are necessary. In bird-photography you rarely have the time to adjust all parameters while taking the shot.In my camera bag
Two Nikon cameras and three lenses: Landscape, 70-200 mm, 600 mm and 1,4 extender will usually cope with all possible situations in bird-photography.Feedback
Always be patient and more so: be ready for particular circumstances. Have your right camera(s) mounted with different lenses handy at all times.
