Behind The Lens
Location
The photo was taken on the farm where I keep a couple of trailers in Streatley, Bedfordshire, UK.Time
I took the shot early evening around 6pm.Lighting
The sun was still shining bright an hour or two before it hides behind the trees.Equipment
I used my Nikon D7000 with a Sigma 70-300mm f/3.5-5.6 lens at 220mm and f/5. Camera was set to ISO 100 for the best clarity. I had to lean on the fence for stability as my tripod was at home. I used the biggest aperture I had to separate the two ears from the rest of the crop.Inspiration
As I drove alongside the field I noticed a couple of ears standing above the rest of the crop which were highlighted in the bright sunlight. I thought this will make a good photo for the farmer. I printed to A2 size and showed the farmer, he wouldn't give it back and it now resides on the wall in the meeting room where a consortium of farmers meet.Editing
I used Photoshop to just change the brightness using the curves option. In my camera bag
My camera bag usually has my D7000, Nikkor 18-70 lens, Nikkor 35mm lens and Sigma 70-300mm lens. I sometimes have my Fujifilm X-E2 in the bag with an 16-55mm lens on. Nikon speed light 600 and a couple of spare batteries.Feedback
I don't think this shot would have worked out the same if I hadn't had the bright sunshine. The main thing was getting the aperture as wide as possible to separate the "Two Ears" from the background. A tripod would have been better but the fence was solid for me to lean on to steady the shot.
