I took that photo on New Zealands east coast.Time
The photo was taken at sunrise, probably even before sunrise. Getting up early is a key point.Lighting

This was shot with a Canon 5DMK2 and the 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM. I also used a tripod and a grad filter.Inspiration

Always try to get up early and check the weather regularly in order to know what conditions you can expect. Shooting at the ocean also requires checking the tide times.
