Jim, everything about this image works for me. Great tonal range, rich detail in the whites and midtones. I LOVE the contrast between the puffy clouds, the rugged, weathered wood planks, and the delicate grass at the bottom. In this post-silver age of digital photography, too many people think that making an arresting black and white image is as simply as clicking a button. This image demonstrates there's MUCH more involved. It reminds me of the work of a couple of other photographers whose work I particularly enjoy: Adams and Weston. I'm gushing I know, but this is one of the best images I can remember seeing on Viewbug.

Thank you Kent. You're right, simply pushing a button, selecting a filter or changing a camera setting most often does not give the image the respect and care it deserves. Just as in the wet darkroom days, one still needs to be disciplined in post processing as well. Black and white will always be at the soul of my photography. I am passionate about digital, but the days and nights shooting and processing black and white film and processing silver prints will never be forgotten or go unappreciated.
