We have constructed an incredible world of convenience and comfort for ourselves, and its easy to become engulfed in this and disconnected from what life can be really about. This photo for me symbolizes taking chances and going into the unknown. Camping in a dry river bed in Namibia surrounded by scored of animals we couldn't even name, cooking by the fire under a beautiful milky way.

Location
Even if I tried I would never be able to find my way back to this spot, it was an indistinct dry river bed to call home for the night about 3 hours driving North-West of SossusvleiTime
I would assume it would be around 10-11pm, we would always wake up early with the sun so our nights were also early for this trip.Lighting
All natural light from the fire and the stars with the exception of the small led light on the truck behind us.Equipment
My go to gear a few years ago now: - Sony a6000 - Samsung 12mm f2 - cheap Chinese made travel tripodInspiration
When you are in the middle of the desert hours away from any civilisation the nights sky is so vivid and clear. Once our fire had startled to burn itself down the stars exploded into view so i jumped to grab my camera and capture this shot.Editing
This is a 2 shot exposure, one for the foreground and fire, and another from the same framing for the sky 15 minutes later once the fire had dwindled. I did try to capture it through a single exposure but as bright as the stars were that night, the light from fire was too intense to do this view justice. In my camera bag
Photography is usually taking a back seat to my adventures, for this trip in Africa most of my luggage allowance was taken up by kitesurfing gear. But my lightweight camera setup was at the time: - Sony a6000 - Samyang 12mm - Sony 16-70 - Sony 70-200 - cheap travel tripodFeedback
Get out there and do it! But be safe and prepare for the unexpected
