Location
I live in the most rural county in northern Florida, and have found a small island way out in the marsh that I like to go to and take photos of the sunset. Not many people ever venture here, so I enjoy the nature, seclusion and calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico as my subject. Now and again, I see a boater passing by, so I snap the photo.Time
This is a sunset photo I snapped on Christmas Eve. The winds were so calm, you could barely tell where the sky or ocean line meet. The perfect time of day for sunset photos in my opinion.Lighting
I have discovered that even though the sun itself is a pretty subject, the sky will often send out the most brilliant colors after the sun disappears into the sea as it did in this photo. The soft tone reflections, flat water and pastel colors intrigued me, and I could not stop snapping photos. The colors I can not take credit for, as they were pure mother nature given, not edited at all.Equipment
I believe I took this photo with a small cannon that had a pretty good zoom feature.Inspiration
I love taking photos with the subject giving me a silhouette and this small kayaker gave me one of my favorite captures. It requires a special eye on duty all the time to see these silhouettes. At first glance, you may think this fella is paddling toward you, then you look again, and it appears he is paddling away from you. I thought it gave the photo a mystical appearance.Editing
To clean up this photo, I did a once cropping to bring the subject closer to me, then used the soft feature on my camera to give it a more peaceful energy. In my camera bag
I usually only carry one camera, and it is in my hands all the time, no mater where I go. I will also keep a small tripod just in case there is a lot of winds moving my hands if I am taking a far away shot.Feedback
I would advise anyone who wishes to take this type of photo, to pay attention to the suns placement. Seek out an interesting subject that remains in front of the sun beam or between you and the sun. Take photos until the sun is so far gone, you need a flashlight to find your truck! Enjoy what you do, and keep on taking photos as the colors in the sky changes every moment, and no two sunsets are alike. This photo has sisters, but this was my favorite of the group. Thank you for the view.
