Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at home, on my very own bed actually. I was playing cards with my friend the other day and I accidentaly left one of the cards on the bed. My cat just went and lied down right next to it. That's when I got the idea to take this kind of photo.

Time

It was right after I came home from school. It was cloudy and around 3 p.m, so the lightning was perfect.

Lighting

Actually, there's wasn't such a problem with lightning. I live in a 7th floor and I have my bed opposite the window, so I didn't need to add any extra light.

Equipment

I used my Canon EOS 550D, no tripod or flash.

Inspiration

I usually just grab my camera when I got the mood and I shoot what I like at the moment. This time my cat did the thinking for me. My cat, Princess Leia (I'm kind of huge Star Wars fan...), is very friendly and highly photogenic. She always makes specific sound when I take out the camera and makes a pose. This was the exact example. She just lied down next to the card and stayed still. I just got the idea to do "catsino", so I arranged another cards around her. It was fun.

Editing

I did just small edits like bringing the contrast up, but no big editing at all. I'm trying to be minimalist in editing photos.

In my camera bag

I usually have my other lenses (I try to fit all of them inside the bag, but it does not always work out as planned), snacks and backup memory card, because I tend to have problems with erasing pictures (it's kinda like when people don't want to throw out their old clothes because "what if..."). On my other shoulder I have another bag with tripod.

Feedback

I think that photographing animals is kinda different and I believe it's just about the right moment. You obviously can't tell the animal what to do (if it's not trained ofcourse). You just got to be patient and the best is let the animal do its things.
