Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Kohl’s Yo, an island in Thailand’s largest lake called Thale Sap. It’s connected to the Gulf of Thailand and has abundant supply of fish, both fresh and salt water. This is a typical fishing boat. You can see the fishing nets that are fixed in the shallow water.

Time

It was taken in the afternoon of January 8, 2017 towards the end of monsoon season here in the south of Thailand.

Lighting

It had rained most of the night and morning, and then it stopped. I could see another storm coming in from the storm, and I I only had minutes before the next deluge. The light was luminous.

Equipment

I used an Olympus E M1 with an exposure of f1/16 and 1/100. The ISO was 100, I think.

Inspiration

The composition with the boat hoisted out of the water with the fishing nets and the little houses where the fishermen find shelter from the rain of the fast approaching storm in the background reveals a story about working people in Thailand.

Editing

I begin my editing in LR than Photoshop and back again. For the B&W conversion, I used Silver Efex Pro 2.

In my camera bag

I have a small Peak Designs bag with an Olympus OM E-M511 with a Olympus f2.8 12-40 mm zoom lens and an Olympus f1.8 45mm lens. I have a Peak Design carbon fiber travel tripod but did not use it for this shot.

Feedback

Advice: look for adverse weather conditions to get unusual lighting. Cameras that are rainproof are a must though.
