Yesterday was hot and sunny and there were at least five of this particular Bee Fly, Bombylius major in my garden, this male was defending 'his' patch form all comers, not just other male be flies but any other insect which came close the only exception being a female bee fly if he could draw one in. He came down very briefly to nectar but then was back on the job.
