Two weeks spent, 7k miles traveling into the unknown with little to no planning and nowhere near enough resources to make the journey. Sometimes you just need to reach out into the void of reality and embrace whatever chance you have to discover that which you have yet to experience. No matter the consequences, your future self will thank you for not holding yourself back from any dreams which overcome you.

Behind The Lens

Location

I was on a long distance; albeit spontaneous journey cross-country, this must've been somewhere in the Rockies on my way through the mountains to stop off at my brother's in Colorado Springs, CO. Not sure any more specifically than that to be honest.

Time

The photo would have the correct timestamp as I do not edit my photos.

Lighting

There is little to say about the lighting other than that it's just as nature had planned for me to experience at the time, a storm was in the making about to become a blizzard a few hours later.

Equipment

I used a Nikon L110 for this photo

Inspiration

I had been driving for the past ten hours or so from California to the east towards Colorado, with another five hours to go before I would arrive at my next stop for the night. There was a sense of accomplishment to have traveled everywhere I had been over the course of the past three weeks having traveled in excess of 5,000 miles while having had one of the most illuminating adventures of my lifetime throughout, and it was coming to an end soon.. I wanted to have record of the wonders I witnessed along my path, and this sight was one which called out to me to be a milestone along the way. Proving that true freedom is found on the open road, with no deadlines or worries beyond the journey which unfolds before they who take such adventures no matter what anyone says in opposition. Some call it soul-searching.

Editing

I never use any post-processing on my photos as I believe to capture the moment just as I saw it, leaving the end result as a raw natural capture of the essence of the scene before me.

In my camera bag

Just my Nikon L110, I was told once by a photographer I happened across in my travels, (after asking him about his camera) that what kind of camera a photographer uses is not as important as the eye of the photographer. How they see the scene and go about capturing what it is they see within it which puts them in a state of awe. I couldn't agree more with this statement as some of my most wonderful photos have been taken with the worst of cameras I've ever owned. Though they were not high quality end results due to the low resolution of the camera used; they were what I had available when a scene in the world jumped out at me and inspired me to do what I could to capture it just as I saw it in my mind's eye. Now thinking about this I will surely upload some of those photos in the near future to show what I mean by this.

Feedback

I can't advise anyone to use my methods used for this photo specifically seeing as how I went about getting this particular photo was not by any means considered safe by others, therefore I won't risk advising others to take such risks. (Notice the perspective/weather conditions/location to understand what I mean by this) All in all though, don't set out to take photos, just have a camera handy and go about the adventures you wish to take. The beauty all surrounding will let you know when something deserves to be frozen in frame for the world to see.
