Near the end of a session with a family, I saw a great opportunity to get some shots of other things. This would be one of them. I really love the sunset and how it starts to join the reflection with everything else.

Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken at August A. Busch Memorial Conservation Area in St. Charles, Missouri. I was taking photos of a family for them and it's such a beautiful place!

Time

I believe the time was close to Golden Hour that day, which is about an hour or so from sunset. Leaning more towards 4-5 pm.

Lighting

I had just finished our session with the family and we were walking back to the cars, when I saw this image in my head and just took the shot. When I edited the photos later, this one popped up and it was just what I was looking for. The lighting was perfect right then for what I needed.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D90 with my 85mm lens. No tripod. Just steady hands that day and a slow deep breath.

Inspiration

What inspired me, was that this shot reminds me of a landscape painting. One's that were done by Bob Ross or William Alexander..things I grew up learning. I wanted the picture to represent a painting.

Editing

I didn't do too much to it. The lighting was very nice so I tweaked the contrast and helped the flare stand out more. It was very easy to edit.

In my camera bag

Depends on the case these days. I have my trusty old Nikon D90 & now a D3400 both with different lens. My flashes, extra batteries and cards. Depending on the word I'm doing, depends on which one I take. I also have a Pentax.

Feedback

Don't be in a hurry. Take your time and take as many photos as you're able to. Make sure your light is right where you want it. In the end, with enough practice, you will find that special shot, too.
