Thank you ... yes, there's nothing quite like the green of the Pacific Northwest.

The lighting provides so many subtle shade variations, and it allows a more emotionally restful view. The texture differences between the water and flora are fantastic. Restful and stimulating at the same time. Excellent. Very representative of life. Smooth in places, rough in others. Love it!!!

This photo was taken at Cascadia State Park, near Sweet Home, Oregon.Time
This was taken at 9:21 am, on 04/01/17. It was an overcast morning, after many, many rainy days. I was hoping for continued cloud cover ... and NO rain, and felt lucky when that was the way the morning turned out.Lighting
I love the lighting in this photo. It was an overcast day, with just enough filtered light through the trees to give a beautiful, soft glow. This is my favorite type of lighting for shooting river and waterfall photos.Equipment
I shoot with a Sony a7II. I used a tripod for this photo, as I do with all moving water photos. I wanted a "soft" water feel, so used a 2 second exposure. I played around with exposure times to get the one I liked.Inspiration
We had gone for a hike that day, with the intent of shooting Soda Creek Falls, in Cascadia State Park (Oregon). I had been taking photos of the waterfall for an hour or so, and then turned around, and thought, "Oh, I've been missing something here!" I had been so absorbed in the waterfall that I hadn't noticed the beauty of the stream flowing down the ravine away from the falls. I took a few photos from this angle ... and I'm really glad that I did. I love deep forests, and this has become one of my favorite photos. I always learn something from my photography outings. From this trip I learned to pay more attention ... to look for those places of subtle beauty.Editing
I shoot in ARW. This photo was processed in Lightroom. Then I used a Nik filter (Photoshop) to soften it a bit more ... to give it a bit of a "glow."In my camera bag
Oh, I travel light! I carry my Sony a7II camera, and have only one lens! (a 28-70mm) I carry a tripod, either in-hand, or strapped to my day pack. Most of my photos are taken on hikes, and I don't want to be encumbered with a lot of equipment.Feedback
When shooting waterfalls, or streams, lighting is critical. Early morning is the best, before the sun hits the water. I don't shoot water on sunny days (though I know it's possible with an ND filter). My favorite type of morning here in the Pacific Northwest, is after a rain. Everything takes on a soft feel. Days when there is light mist in the forest are even better! When the sun starts making glare on the water, find a comfortable spot, sit down, have a snack, and just enjoy the view!
