Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on a baseball field in Longview, Wa where I run my photography business. This photo session was a great new experience for me I hadn't had much of on opportunity to do senior photos of a person who played baseball, so I was able to come up with some unique new shots that I hadn't tried before.

Time

The photo was taken in the afternoon on an cloudy day. Nothing really noteworthy about the time.

Lighting

It was fairly cloudy the day of the shoot so with the sun behind some cloud coverage we were able to get some good photos without the harsh light.

Equipment

This was taken when all I had was a Rebel t3i which was a great little camera, but for sure had its limits, and a 50 mm 1.8 my very first prime lens.

Inspiration

Anytime I do a senior photoshootI always try to find different and unique photos that will set their photos apart from all their friends, this is one of those photos.

Editing

My goal is to try to do as little is post processing as possible, so I probably did some minor lighting adjustments but not to much.

In my camera bag

At the time this photo was taken it was just my good old t3i and a 50 mm 1.8, nothing super special.

Feedback

As for the technical aspect of the photo it's pretty straight forward; shoot wide open and have the focus point be on the foreground. Honestly the best advise I can give to someone trying to get a similar image is don't be afraid to try different things. The beauty of digital photography is the ability to shoot an incredible amount of photos and If a photo idea doesn't work out that's fine, no harm done. It's usually the unique angles, focus point, or poses that make a photo that stand out.
