Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at Half Moon Bay in California, July of 2017 during a photography workshop I attended.

Time

I took this one at around 7:25 PM.

Lighting

The goal of the workshop was to shoot a ton of pictures as the scene changed, looking that perfect moment. The lighting was changing very rapidly, so we had to adjust lenses and keep going.

Equipment

Nikon D5200 on a tripod - ƒ/20 1/100 32mm ISO100

Inspiration

The whole class was asked to find a scene and frame it as your eye sees it. So the workshop spread way out to find their own inspired view of this lovely place as the sun went down. I found my spot away from a everyone, and this is what I shot.

Editing

This photo was shot in RAW format. I downloaded it into LightRoom and was able to coax all these colors out manually. I did not use a pre-set, this was just goofing around until I found the sweet picture.

In my camera bag

I have my trusty Nikon D5200, and a point and shoot Canon PowerShot SX50 HS. The reason I keep the Canon in there is the lens. It goes from 24 to 1200. 12.1 megapixels, but I've gotten the craters of the moon with that camera! I have three lenses: a kit lens that came with the Nikon, it's an 18-55; a 55-200, and a 70-300 manual focus lens.

Feedback

Best advise, have patience. Also perhaps have a handy aperture settings guide and know what these do. I tried different settings to get this shot, shooting probably 40 pictures to get the best one.
