Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the zoo, Safaripark Beekse Bergen, the Netherlands.

Time

At the end of my day at the zoo, I always walk by the lions, because they're most active in the morning and late afternoon. This was around 3 pm and they were focused on some zookeepers who were doing some maintenance on an enclosure next to the lions.

Lighting

This photo was taken in march, so the spring sun was shining. It also means that the sun goes under a bit early. Hence the goldish color on the lions.

Equipment

I have a Canon EOS 7D mark II and use the Canon 100-400 mm mark II lens.

Inspiration

Because they were so focused on the working zookeepers, the stood there next to each other. It was really great to see them like this, because most of the time they just lay there and do nothing, like cats do.

Editing

I did a little touch-up with the shades in their faces, it made their expressions more visible.

In my camera bag

Just as I described earlier, I have a Canon EOS 7D mark II and use the Canon 100-400 mm mark II lens.

Feedback

Always check if there are any zookeepers around doing their work next to lions, tigers or any other predators. Usually they find that interesting and sometimes it makes a great picture. Be patient, make sure you do some pre-shoots, to be sure your camera is set as you want it to be.
