Location
This photo was taken at my dining room table.Time
It was mid-afternoon with a window camera left, but there was no sun coming in through the window.Lighting
I eliminated all ambient light from my camera and used a 5 ft octobox camera right at a 45 degree angle from the subject.Equipment
Canon 5D Mk III, 70-200 mm 2.8 lens, alienbee 400 with 5 ft octoboxInspiration
I was in the process of putting together my portfolio for my Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) certification through the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). I needed an image showing control over depth of field, so I used my three year old with cookies. I mean, come on - a toddler with cookies can't help but being a cute image.Editing
Minimal. I made sure there were clear details in all of the shadows, made sure white balance was correct, and removed a couple of skin imperfections. In my camera bag
Primarily I shoot my Canon 5DMkIII with a 70-200 2.8 lens, but I do keep a 24-70 2.8 in my bag as well. When on location with portraiture, I primarily use my 2x3 softbox with an alienbee 800 light unit.Feedback
Have everything set up correctly and do all of your exposure testing, etc., to make sure everything is set right prior to putting the subject in place. 3 year olds do not last long when patiently waiting for a cookie, so be ready to go as soon as the toddler is in place. Also, have a good supply of cookies as well! The whole time I was shooting, I would tell him, "Waaaaiiiitttt for it! Give me five more seconds and you'll get the cookie!", but at some point, you need to give them a cookie...
