Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at Sheriff’s Lench a Quaker village in Worcestershire, England. I was working as a Carpenter on a barn conversion. I had just purchased a Canon 400d and took it everywhere.

Time

I had got to work early around 6am it was October and misty. I noticed the photo opportunity on route so I walked back and took the photo

Lighting

Natural light was the key to the shot, it lit the mist just to the left of the gate. It was a beautiful autumn morning.

Equipment

I used a tripod and standard kit lens. I wanted to hold the shutter open to get as much detail as possible f22

Inspiration

It was the beautiful autumn colours that inspired me and the puddle in the foreground for a great reflection so sharp.

Editing

There wasn’t any need for post-processing. I’d spent all spare money on my camera so couldn’t afford photoshop as well !!!

In my camera bag

My camera kit has changed a lot since I took that photo now I pack a canon 70d a 10-20mm 15-85mm 50mm f1.4 70-200mm f2.8 100-400mm f4.5 and a tripod, filters spare storage and batteries. I seem to have managed all these years with no flash gun !

Feedback

The best advise I can give to take a photo like that is to keep your eyes peeled to see the shot before it’s taken and of course get up early.
