Helmeted Honeyeater. Photographed Bunyip State Park, Gembrook, Victoria, Australia. It is the state bird emblem of Victoria. In 1989 there was only 50 bird remaining due to habitat loss and it faced extinction. A recovery program driven by volunteers has resulted in the numbers increasing into the hundreds. As part of this program, most if not all of the birds have identification rings.
In support, I have spent time on revegetation of habitat and surveying.
