Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Sabino Canyon in Tucson, AZ. One of my favorite spots for hiking and photography.

Time

This was taken just a little into the afternoon.

Lighting

That day was cloudless, so the sun was creating very sharp shadows across the landscape.

Equipment

This was shot on my old faithful, my Canon t7i rebel. Nothing fancy have for a UV filter lens and my 75-300mm lens.

Inspiration

At the time I was learning about leading lines and how to set up shots using a 3x3 grid. My eye caught onto the rock that's in the lower left corner and just naturally trailed up to the mountain peak in the background.

Editing

I did do a bit of post-processing since, as I mentioned before, it was a bright and sunny day so I had to bring down the exposure just a bit (still wasn't used to adjustments using the camera settings at the time) and cropped the photo so it focused specifically on the leading line that had caught my attention.

In my camera bag

Normally I just have my camera, my two lenses (18-55mm and 75-300mm) and a few lenses that help with UV or color temperature. Along with some lens cleaning equipment and my music player.

Feedback

I've made this hike on this trail many many times before, but this time I took the time to stop and actually observe my surroundings. Do that. Even if you've walked by the same building every day on your way to work, or passed by that same park since you were a kid, take the time to stop and actually look at something. Try and see it from a different angle or in different light. You'd be surprised how different everyday things can look if you just find that different angle.
