Snaefellsjokull volcano is situated at the tip of the Sanefellsness Peninsula in West Iceland.
At a height of 1446m, it is the highest mountain on the peninsula and has a glacier at its peak.
The mountain is also known as the setting for the novel, Journey to the Center of the Earth, by the French author Jules Verne.
The mountain features in a famous Icelandic saga - The Saga of Bard, The Snowfell God.
'The namesakes set out to sea. They had a long and arduous journey of fifty days before they came to the south of the country and headed west. There they saw a great mountain, covered with glaciers. They named the mountain Snowfell and the peninsula on which it stood was called Snowfell peninsula.'
This image was captured from Londrangar as the cloud cover lifted from the peak which had been subjected to a recent fresh snowfall.
