This image is one of the biggest sources of motivation for me when it comes to landscape photography. It's one of the main reasons I head out again and again no matter if it's pouring or not. When I'm travelling I often don't have the chance to wait out the weather. But I have to stay positive and hope for this little break in the clouds.
As I took this photo at Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland it had been raining for two days already and it was just flat grey skies... typical irish weather ;-) But it was also the last day I had in Antrim so I went down to the Causeway to give it a try. It didn't look good but just minutes before sunset the sun appeared for a few seconds and I saw the little gap at the horizon. The clouds out there weren't so thick after all.
What came afterwards was one hour of the most intense sunset light I have ever whitnessed. It was pure bliss!
Since then I always wait for another Bloody Causeway moment. And to be honest most of the time it doesn't happen. Actually in the last four years I had less than five similar displays of light. But just a few months ago while visiting the 12 Apostels and not getting a good shot for two days it was time for another Bloody Causeway moment. The first time that I can say I got equally outstanding light and it was again flat grey skies turning into an inferno.
So head out there no matter the weather. Eventually it will pay off!
