This successful shot was made by me in the Moscow zoo. The photo shows a Mississippian alligator named Gennady (Crocodile Gena). Gennady generally does not like to be photographed, and therefore it is very difficult to agree with him what to make a good portrait. But in this case it was an exception, since Gennady himself called me and asked me to make a portrait with him. The fact is that Gennady has many relatives in America who freely swim in the waters of Mississippi, and Gennady writes letters and sends postcards every year, and this year he decided to send his picture instead of a postcard, and therefore invited me for a photo shoot ...Time
I can not remember the exact time now, since it was a long time ago. But maybe it was about 12:00 pm, as Gennady and I just had time to have breakfast, have a cup of coffee, and discuss the details of the upcoming shooting ...Lighting
Of course for Gennady, it's usually the dark time of the day, but since the photo needed natural daylight, and even more so at night the zoo does not work, we spent this photo session in the afternoon.Equipment
I always carry a Nikon D810 camera and a Nikkor 24-70 standard lens with me. From flashes and other lighting equipment it was decided to refuse, since Gennady was very much nervous because of the bright light.Inspiration
Of course, the fact that Gennady himself called me, and his story about how all his relatives feel great in free waters of the Mississippi. Therefore, it was decided to make this photo with exactly the same perspective, where Gennady looks healthy and content, that his family would know that he is also doing well.Editing
Yes, I had to use the editor for a bit, since Gennady was initially with a cigar in his teeth, but then we thought that this was not the best solution for demonstrating a healthy lifestyle, and so it was decided to retouch and remove the cigar.In my camera bag
