Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken at the Welsh Hawking Centre, Barry, South Wales. I had the opportunity to hold this incredible animal which was a great experience. I then got the chance to get a few shots with my new lens at the time. I hadn't long started photography but the Red Kite gave a great pose.

Time

It was late afternoon when this was taken just before the Hawking centre was closing.

Lighting

This was shot in natural light late afternoon.

Equipment

The equipment I used included the Nikon D7000 with the Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 @195mm 1/640s f/8 ISO800 No flash.

Inspiration

I have always loved birds of prey and really wanted to get the Red Kite as there were only 2 pairs left in Wales. Thankfully there is a scheme to reintroduce them back to Britain now by the RSPB.

Editing

I did a light bit of post processing in lightroom, the usual a little contrast, saturation and clarity.

In my camera bag

Normally in my bag now is Nikon D7200, Tokina 11-16mm ii, Nikon 16-85mm, Sigma 8-16mm, Nikon 40mm micro lenses.

Feedback

The only advise I can give when shooting any type of animal is patience, patience and a little more patience.
