(Project 52-Week10) A female Mallard comes home every spring to LIVE in our neighbors swimming pool. She always has a 'flurry' of Males following her who make the biggest ruckus over her throughout the day for weeks. I find it comical to watch them flirt and play around in the pool. Last year the neighbors bought the kind of Pool Cover where they cannot get in at all............no more Photo Ops for me but then again - it always upsets me if I am outside and a Males starts to mate with her - they get so violent, pushing her head underwater for the longest time. The first time I saw it I did not know that this was common and demanded that my husband rush next door and save her !!! He just laughed and said 'it's just nature Gail - that's how they do it' - I wonder if the Male floats on his back and has a cigarette later as well ???

Just had to LOL at your little story/caption, Gail . . . so funny! Glad your little Mallard hen survives the onslaught every year. This is a beautiful tender image and nothing like the mating ritual you described. ッ

hahaha - your story is too funny, Gail! ..but the photos is lovely! Love the frame effect.. I would not want to see the mating either, but I would never be able to keep them out of my pool if I had one! :)
