Takenya was shot in the wing and her wing could not be fully repaired enough for her to fly properly so Takenya enjoys life meeting visitors at the Raptor Centre year round!

Red-tailed hawks eat voles, mice, wood rats, rabbits, snowshoe hares, jackrabbits, ground squirrels pheasants, bobwhite, starlings, and blackbirds; as well as snakes and carrion.

They can usually be seen hunting as a pair, guarding opposite sides of the same tree to catch tree squirrels.

Red-tailed Hawks typically put their nests in the crowns of tall trees where they have a commanding view of the landscape. They may also nest on a cliff ledge or on artificial structures such as window ledges and billboard platforms.

Red Tailed Hawks are awesomely beautiful creatures - majestic and powerful, I love it whenever I see one. What a magnificent place this is to 'nurture back to health' and make a 'home' for these birds that cannot return to the wild. Fabulous capture and edit - what an awesome 'treat' this experience must have been!

Majestic bird. Love the setting. I have one that lives outside my apartment closeby. I see it on the telephone poles with its catches.
