I have a little makeshift studio set up in my dining room, its very basic but allows me to be creative with my photographyTime
This was taken late in the evening, a session that had been planned for about a year, but without the fund or knowledge to pull it off, I had managed to purchase the outfit that afternoon and my eldest daughter was so excited, we decided to wait untill my youngest was in bed as she is constantly trying to get involved, which is usually brilliant however on this occasion i needed to concentrate on my eldest so this was taken around 8:00 pm. it was very dark outside which i feel added to the moodiness of the session.Lighting
I wanted to have a moodiness to the image so used a continuous light to her left, at the time of taking this I didn't know very much about lighting unfortunately, as I am still learning on my photography journey.Equipment
This was shot on my Nikon D5200, I used my Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G lens, and my speed lite on top of camera. my camera settings were 35mm/ƒ/6.3/1/160s/ISO 250.Inspiration
All my children like Harry Potter much like myself, but my eldest daughter is Harry Mad, she is obsessed lol, My girls are always willing to help out on my photography journey, always willing to be in front of the camera when I want to try something new, or just to have a play. I wanted to give something back, K as I say is Obsessed with Harry Potter and such I wanted to give her a themed session she could look back on in years to come. needless to say we had so much fun shooting it, and her photos are ones she makes sure she shows off lol. This image is just one from the set. I have something special in mind for my youngest one too, I just need to pull it all together.Editing
Yes, I sharpened her eye's, converted to black and white and neatened the back drop, which was an old black sheet I've had since starting my journey. In my camera bag
Ahh wow, well my bag always has fully charged camera batteries and spare sd cards. my camera body of course (nikon d5200) my go to lens nowadays for most things is my sigma 70 - 300 mm, however i do take the 35mm in my bag too for times I cant get far enough away to get the shot I want. if im shooting in doors I always take my speed lite however I now use this remotely off camera so would also need to take my stand aswell. loads of batteries, if im outdoors I carry a reflector and a grey card of course. Usually if we go out for a day shooting I'll have my camera bag then another bag full of outfit changes and props to use on location.Feedback
I would say planning is key and it is to a certain extent, however once you have done a certain amount of planning you have to just go for it, otherwise you may be stuck at the planning stage waiting for the most opportune moment to arrive. go out there and make the opportune moment, dont wait for it!!!!
