Zaanse Schans is a neighbourhood of Zaandam, near Zaandijk in the Netherlands. It has a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses. From 1961 to 1974 old buildings from all over the Zaanstreek (nl) were relocated using lowboy trailers to the area.The Zaans Museum, established in 1994, is located in the Zaanse Schans. The Zaanse Schans is one of the popular tourist attractions of the Netherlands and an anchor point of ERIH, the European Route of Industrial Heritage. The neighbourhood attracted approximately 1.6 million visitors in 2014. The Zaans Museum locates next to the Zaanse Schans. The Zaanse Schans houses seven museums: The Weavers House, the Cooperage, the Jisper House, Zaan Time Museum, Albert Heijn Museumshop, Bakery Museum

Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken in the historic windmill village called Zaanse Schans in the Netherlands.

Time

It was taken on an early summer morning with almost no wind and amazing light.

Lighting

Waking up early in the morning and being on time on location always pays off with amazing light and stillness.

Equipment

For this shit I used my Canon 6D with the 16-35mm f/4 lens. My tripod was a aluminium Vanguard.

Inspiration

I am inspired by other great Dutch photographes such as Albert Dros .

Editing

I did very little post processing on order to bring more contrast and saturation. For the rest I use ND filters for the long exposure effect. In PS I use quite often the DxO Nik collection.

In my camera bag

Always my Canon camera and 16-35mm lens as well as my 70-200mm f/2.8

Feedback

Be early on location and do some scouting before on a rainy or cloudy day. Try to find a nice composition and then plan your shot using the weather apps and Photopills . Use graduated filter or ND filters in order to be able to capture something unique. Most important don't give up...!!!
