I wasn't really expecting much from the morning. I was due to be leaving Northumberland that day, so thought that I would just give the beach a try at sunrise. After a 45 minute drive and a 10 minute walk I found the beach deserted. I'd tried the beach twice before and it was certainly a case of third time lucky!

Sunrise. This involved a 4am getup!Lighting
I had hoped to capture sunrise, but the weather wasn't great. Still, after travelling down to the beach I decided to persevere. Fortunately the clouds weren't quite as thick as I thought and actually added to the photo, as a warm glow was created where the sun was rising.Equipment
This was taken with a Canon 60D (though I'd love to go full frame), a grad filter and a new 6 stop filter my wife bought me for Valentine's Day (I know - how romantic!)Inspiration
I love the round boulders! This combined with a castle, the sea and a rising sun was just too perfect!Editing
Just a few tweaks in Lightroom. No HDR or any need to do anything in Photoshop as tried to get it right in camera.In my camera bag
My bag is way too heavy! Lots of filters and three lenses. Despite this I want to make it heavier and get some even better lenses, although it is sometimes hard to justify not being a professional (this is just my hobby!)Feedback
I love the 6 stop filter. A 10 stop means you are waiting ages and makes focusing a pain. The 6-stop is perfect for blurring the sea, but still letting enough light through in the morning so that exposures aren't stupidly long.
