Octopuses or octopi are known to be very smart animals, even being able to recognize particular humans that they have come across in the past. I love photographing them, except I have to catch them and change the background so that they don't just blend in. When I catch them and they don't ink, I feel as if they have some kind of understanding that I am not going to hurt them, and that is when I shoot away before returning them where I found them. This particular day it was very calm out and I decided to bring a coconut in the water and see if I could get an octopus to hold on. To my surprise it held on for a couple of minutes while free to let go as it pleased. The weight of the octopus pulled the entire coconut just below the surface giving a reflection the opposite way we're used to seeing them.
