Location
This photo was taken at Verkhovina in Carpathian mountains. I love spend one week during winter at Carpathian with wife and daughter. That time we have been with our friends.Time
This photo was taken Feb 18, 2017 at night. The whole week was very cold up to -22 Celsius, but the mountain river still did not completely freeze. The sky was clear almost every night and I with my friend took our cameras and tripods, hot tea and cognac and went to the spot. We stood right on the ice.Lighting
This part of Ukraine is full of legends about molfarah and magic. The locals are very superstitious. On the photo may seem that it was light enough, but we stood in complete darkness. At some point on the road to the right stopped a car with a few drunken locals. One of them got out of the car and went to our side to the river with an empty bottle for water. We were afraid that he would drop the tripods and talk to him first and offered to help get water. He fell from fear into the river, we helped him to get up and got him a bottle of water. He ran already sober to the car. I think one legend will be more now in those parts of Carpathian.Equipment
I used Olympus OM-D E-M1 II and M.Zuiko 7-14mm f2.8 PRO. Gitzo tripod.Inspiration
Despite the fact that it was very cold, but the sky was clear and the snow lying on the branches of the fir trees created a fantastic picture. We took photos every night until weather has changed.Editing
I used Lightroom for converting from RAW into JPEG and then I used StarStaX. I always shot in RAW, because files from Micro 4/3 has more noise and I want to have possibility to fix this.In my camera bag
I usually have in my bag my Olympus E-M1 II with best three PRO lenses 12-40 f2.8, 40-150 f2.8 and 7-14 f2.8 from Olympus and time to time Panasonic DG Summilux 25mm f1.4 and Olympus 60mm f2.8 macro. I have flash with me of course and mini tripod manfrotto. Sometime I take both my cameras E-M5 II and E-M1 II. One headlamp and one powerful flash-light.Feedback
Do not be lazy because of the weather. Often the best shots are obtained precisely in difficult weather conditions. Remember of course of the golden hours and shoot more, share with others and listen to criticism, but do not take it too seriously!
