Location
Sculptured out of volcanic activity and thousand years old, Wai-O-Tapu is a magnificent and unique scenic wonderland on the North Island of New-Zealand.Time
The shot was taken in the afternoon.Lighting
The late afternoon light was just beautiful. The colours came out so warm and vibrant I didn't need to put it through a lot of Photoshop.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D3300 with a Nikon AF-S DX 18-105mm VR lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I was excited to visit Wai-O-tapu. Especially a pool called 'Champagne pool' made me very curious. And yes! It definitely had little bubbles just like champagne, but smelled a whole lot worse and was steaming hot. The wind was blowing the steam in all directions. So we had to wait for the right moment to get a clear shot of the bubbles, pathway and background. Luckily my boyfriend Jasper is as mad about photography as me and didn't mind it at all.Editing
I didn't post-process a lot. Just added a bit of contrast and I made the colours pop out a bit more.In my camera bag
I love Nikon and the D3300 is a nice all-rounder. It is light, simple in use and takes sharp, clear pictures. I recently invested in secondhand lenses. For New-Zealand I packed my old Nikon AF-S DX 18-105mm VR lens, an excellent and cheap lens, and an old secondhand Sigma 80-400mm f4.5-5.6 APO OS EX DG Telephoto Zoom. The last one gives photo's a nice 'painted' look.Feedback
Geothermic activity creates a different scene every minute. So take the time, be patient, keep the wind direction in mind (nicer for nose and eyes) and search for the right angle.
