Location
It is shot poolside in the Bahamas.Time
Midday, with the sun overhead.Lighting
There is no artificial light, and no modifiers used. There is some natural reflection of the surface since we were near water. The location was not a perfect lighting situation with some harsh sun overhead, but I found a small area of shade, but the compromise was those colour casts that needed some minor attention.Equipment
Nikon D800, shot with an 85mm portrait lens hand held.Inspiration
It might be an obvious answer, but Leann is just a truly beautiful woman, and very comfortable in front of the lens. The subject inspires me, and I enjoy capturing and sharing that energy and femininity. I simply try get a good connection with her during the shoot, focusing on her eyes... If they are expressive then that will allow the viewer to be captivated too.Editing
Yes, there is some minor post processing, mostly just to clean up a few bad colour casts from the surrounding vegetation. In my camera bag
Several lenses, my camera body, and a backup body, a flash, a loupe, a tripod... and several Bikinis (yes thats right) and some other handy cosmetics and accessories.Feedback
On location I follow my instincts, and try to be open to improvisation and just be in the moment! I try to remember there is a person in front of my lens, not a subject or character etc, but a fellow human being. What I mean to say is all people enjoy connection, and so it shouldn't be uncomfortable/awkward for them, so making that connection with them is vital! I also like to improvise and take shots that are candid and natural, finding some real connection and expression that is 'undiluted'. Working this way doesn't mean I am not prepared, in-fact exactly the opposite. Before any shoot I spend hours preparing, and always have a plan, I scout locations and study my subject, preparing wardrobe and styling, and I study the lighting for the time of day / month / year. I am always prepared to the point for when things do go wrong, I can respond and salvage almost any situation.
