Location
I took this photo from the steps of St. Martins in the Crypt Church across from Trafalgar Square in central LondonTime
I think it was in the afternoon. The International Women's Day March had reached Trafalgar Square and the warm light made for a bright day which seemed to inspire the crowds.Lighting
It was a crisp, clear day and visibility was pretty optimal.Equipment
I used my trusty Canon EOS 1000D, my telephoto lens (70-300mm) and my tripod (grrr).Inspiration
It was generally an awe inspiring day. I had been scanning the crowds for an image that would sum up the spirit of the event. When I saw the little girl sitting on her Dad's shoulders holding onto the placard as if her life depended on it, I realised that at that moment she represented symbolically the need for "support" in order to make a very important point about the rights of women. It was a seminal moment for me.Editing
I converted it to B&W using the Creative Kit software suiteIn my camera bag
I normally carry my Canon EOS 1000D with the standard kit lens, a telephoto lens, a spare battery, memory cards, cables and iPhone peripherals. I also sometimes carry a bottle of water and a snack of some kind. Gosh, that sounds pretty banal, doesn't it? Ok, let's make it a little more appealing, shall we? I carry some hope, gratitude, a little luck and the inspirational support from all the very accomplished people on Viewbug. Yeah, that oughtta do it.Feedback
When you attend large public events, it is advisable to bring your telephoto lens to the party. Doing this enables you to step away from the fray and calmly capture candid, unguarded and intimate pictures of people and their expressions. In other words, "treasure".
