Poppies flower in September here in NSW, in Springtime when the weather is cool. By the time the heat of summer arrives they have usually finished flowering and the plants die. Being a cool climate plant they usually perish when the temperature rises. Amazingly I have managed to keep some poppies going through 40c + temperatures with a lot of water and a lot of TLC. This beautiful poppy flowered on a day when the mecury rose to 38c
