This black bear cub, not far away from its mother and siblings, looked at me through the rhododendron shrubs on the green-way outside the UNC-Asheville campus. Over-development in the hilly Woodfin region and other sectors north of the Asheville district has driven bears from their usual rummaging grounds and into the city, and bear sightings in the greater Asheville region, including outside homes and businesses, have become common.
