Location
This photo was taken at the Quarry Lakes park in Canmore, Alberta, Canada during a wedding shoot.Time
About 4:10 pm on January 16, 2017. It was a warm day for January, only about -6 °C.Lighting
The day was overcast which gave nice soft light to work with for portraits. This gave me a lot of freedom in choosing a variety of angles and locations for their portraits.Equipment
This particular shot was taken hand held shot using a Canon 5D mk iii with a 70-200 f2.8 II lens. My backup body was a Canon 5D mk ii with a Canon 35mm f2.0 mounted on it.Inspiration
The mountain peaks visible at Quarry Lakes are very picturesque and made the close proximity to the ceremony sight made the location an ideal spot for formal wedding photos. This particular photo from the formals is my favourite.Editing
I edited this photo in Adobe Lightroom using minimal adjustments i.e. white balance, histogram, shadows, lights and darks in a manner to produce a natural looking and bright photo while properly exposing skin tones. In my camera bag
I used two full frame cameras for this wedding a Canon 5D mk iii and 5D mk ii. Having two bodies cuts down on the time needed for lens changes and helps me quickly produce photos using a variety of focal lengths. My primary lens for day was a 70-200 f2.8 II which was very useful for some long range portraiture and for zooming around people during the ceremony allowing me to keep out the way. My other lenses I used were a Canon 50mm f1.4 for medium distance photos and a Canon 35mm f2.0 for interior and close distance photos. I also had a speedlite flash on hand for low light shooting (interior as after dark).Feedback
To get a photo like this it helps to pre-visualize the photo, scout the locations and act as required to get the shot. In this case I started by establishing a good working relationship with the happy couple and got them to relax in front of the camera. I took them to the best location near the end of the formals as I knew I would get the best photos at this time and after a few jokes and a lot of laughs and other great photos they had this tender moment which I was all to happy to capture.
