Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during a Sailing trip from Louisiana to Florida.

Time

This photo was taken in late January around 5:00pm.

Lighting

Mother nature provided a gorgeous and colorful sunset all on her own. There was no additional lighting used.

Equipment

This shot was captured with the built in camera on the Samsung Galaxy s6 while being hand held from a moving sailboat. Not the ideal situation, but I'm happy I was able to capture the end of a beautiful day.

Inspiration

The sky was so vibrant it almost looked like it was on fire. When I turned around and seen the beautiful view before me I just had to capture it. There is just something about a sunset over water that brings a sense of peace and happiness.

Editing

This image required very little editing. I simply added a little contrast and the slightest saturation boost. I wanted to keep the image true to what I saw.

In my camera bag

Typically in my bag (when I have it with me), I carry my Nikon D3100, 85mm, 70-300mm and 35mm lenses. I also make sure to carry neutral density filters, shutter release and a tripod. My collection is still a work in progress as this is merely a hobby.

Feedback

When attempting to shoot landscapes or sunsets I highly recommend using ND filters. However, if your stuck using your camera phone like I was then put your camera in "pro" mode if it's available on your phone. It gives more control over shutter speed and iso.
