Honestly, I am not sure when it was taken, somewhere in the afternoon.Lighting
The coastal area in Northern California usually have a lot of fog, the fog had just burned away but not completely yet, and that made for great lighting and cloud shapes.Equipment
Here I was actually using a really really old camera lol, one of the first (if not THE first) digital sony cameras. Now I I usually use a Lumix because it is so much lighter. No high end stuff by any means but the quality of a composition does not come from equipment.Inspiration
Honestly; I am not much of a planner. I know a lot of people really plan their photography sessions, and that's fine... I don't have the patience; I just grab my equipment and go out, shoot what I think I see is worth it. The same happened here, I was on my motorcycle riding along the coast and stopped to take some photos because this is always a good view. The clouds, lighting and bird all came together right there.Editing
Hardly. Because I shoot RAW, I did bring back the colors a bit, but that's it really.In my camera bag

Go by your instinct. Go somewhere that you have a good feeling about in the moment, and just be in the now, really looking at your surroundings. As mentioned I don't plan, I just pick a spot I feel like going, I don't even care about the weather or light of the day, most important thing: it has to feel good in the moment. I never come home empty-handed, ever.
