Location
To be honest - my bedroom. I have a large room so a studio-like setup was easy in my room.Time
NAPTIME. That's a time right? It's the only time I get things done. That and after my children go to bed at night. Specifically around 2:30pm I took this.Lighting
I used two studio lights on either side of me. I should note, I have a window to the left of me that I could not block out the light, so I had some natural light leaking in the room.Equipment
I Love Sony Cameras. The one on my head is an older camera I no longer use. The camera I used to shoot this series is a Sony A58 with a kit 50mm - 70mm Minolta lens. I prefer natural light, however this was taken in the winter, light was not the greatest. I'm also horrific when it comes to studio lighting so I needed to practice. For the lighting I used two umbrella lights on either side of me, both slightly higher than my head. It took a lot of trial and error for the light setup. For the background I used a 10ft x 12ft back cotton backdrop. No tripod - just holding my camera up by using a stool to help balance.Inspiration
Boredom and wanting to take a new Self Portrait for my photography website. I wanted something different for my new Head Shot. The Series started off with just holding the camera in my hand to show "I'm a photographer." Then the camera moved to the top of my head somehow. I wanted to have the camera in my face but not holding it. I decided to wrap the strap around my hair. Let me tell you the camera is a lot heavier when you have your hair holding it up! Yes, some hair was damaged in the process. I think I knocked my forehead about 20 plus times trying to balance the camera on my face. It was fun though and so worth the pain. lolEditing
Post- processing is a yes. Because the backdrop was so small, I had to blackout more of the sides as the white walls were showing. I took this photograph originally landscape so I cropped it into a portrait. Also, I wanted more of the focus on the camera lens, so I used post-processing focus in Paintshop Pro. I also took this in color, so I had to convert it to black and white. In my camera bag
LOVE LOVE LOVE SONY CAMERAS! Right now I have my Sony A58 with kit lens along with a 50mm prime, and 70mm-200mm Minolta Lens. Occasionally I will use my phone camera Galaxy s8.Feedback
