Location
This photo was taken in southwest Florida during the early morning hours. I am a self taught photographer and used to spend my winters in Florida. One of my favorite things to do was try to catch photos of these endangered ground owls in their habitat at various angles.Time
This was taken in the early morning hours of January 6, 2017. It was an automatic shot believe it or not and the settings were: 1/500 sec. f6.3 400mm. ISO 500Lighting
I cropped to get this close up of my favorite little bird.Equipment
This was shot with my Canon EOS Rebel T6i. 100-400mm lens. I never use a tripod photographing these birds as you have to be extremely quick and set up equipment might scare them off. You're lucky to get the photo let alone use a tripod.Inspiration
As I spent the winters in Florida for years, these little birds are nesting from January to April (which is when I leave). I enjoy riding out numerous times over these months trying to catch a memorable shot such as this.Editing
As this photo was taken some years ago, I don't remember the processing, but sometimes I do post processing and sometimes of course, they don't require it. Evidently I did something to blur the background. In my camera bag
I normally have 2 cameras, several lenses and a monopod and tripod with me whenever I photograph anything. However, as mentioned above, no other equipment was used other than hand-holding my camera with my 100-400mm lens.Feedback
The only advice I would give anyone is to practice, practice, practice. As I take photos, I'm my worst critic. I feel as if I can always do better and strive to make that happen. I just love everything about photography and without practice, practice, practice, you'll never get there.
