I took this photo outside of an ice-cream parlor in Washington DC, across the street from a friends hair and make up salon. This was a very cold day and I had to capture the photo before the model got too cold.Time
Whenever I am only assisted by natural light, I like to shoot very early. From experience, I’ve learnt over the years that any time before noon and late afternoon gets me the “Perfect Light.”Lighting
Everyone who’s passionate about photography understand the importance of lighting and all know how expensive it is to acquire quality gear. During my early years as a photographer, I did not have nor make enough capital to secure such equipment. Because of this I learnt to utilize and recognize the natural ambiance in my surroundings. To this day, I consider myself much better outside vs. the studio.Equipment
I am #TeamCanon all the way. For this shoot I used my Canon 5D Mark iii, 85 1.2 and what was around me. I am not a big fan of tripods and I normally only use off camera flash when I have an assistant.Inspiration
To be honest if money did not exist, I would still be pursuing out individuals to capture. What inspires me the most about portrait photography is the ability to take a photograph of a person in a way in which that they have never seen themselves; this is always my motivation and best inspiration.Editing
I always tell my friend that I am a Photographer not a graphic designer ????. So, my Main go to is Lightroom. However, I do sometimes utilize the brushs in photoshop to fix small blemishesIn my camera bag
Because I strictly specialize and prefer shooting portraits, it’s been while since I’ve really gone in my bag. I normally keep my canon prime lens collection (50mm f/1.2L, 85mm f/1.2L, 100mm f/2.8L, 135mm f/2L) with me for most shoots.Feedback
The best tip I can give anyone who would like to dabble in photography, especially those who would like to capture individuals, is to learn how to read people. Though this may sound mundane, understanding your subject(s) enables us as photographers to make them more comfortable. When a subject is happy with their photographer the best photos are captured. Equally vital, photographers must be hyper alert. What I mean by this is that as a photographer it is our job to pay attention to everything including the subject’s clothes, accessories, and the environment around them.
