Behind The Lens

Location

Zuni Pueblo dancers photo was taken on the streets of Gallup New, Mexico during the annual week-long Inter-Tribal Ceremonial Event.

Time

The event host different performance throughout the week and one is a parade. A section of the downtown Gallup area is closed and people gather along the old highway route 66. The parade starts in the morning and last for about an hour where different American Indian tribal members perform their cultural dance.

Lighting

The morning sun was intense to shoot under because I was still trying to get comfortable with the camera and lens. The dancers did not stop as they pass me, but I manage to capture one of the dancers performing enabling me to highlight that moment.

Equipment

Canon Rebel t2i and the manufactured lens that camera with the camera.

Inspiration

I am American Indian and a member of the Navajo Nation. The Navajo Nation is surrounded by numerous of other American Indian tribes and I want to capture as many tribal members as I can.

Editing

I use Photoshop and Lightroom to highlight some areas and removed people from the background.

In my camera bag

camera, notebook, pen, extra battery and lens cloth.

Feedback

Respect your subjects and let the moment happen. I did not plan on how the photo was going to come out. I had an idea and hope for the best.
