Sometimes it's necessary to get to the snow if it's insisting in staying away.
There's far less post processing in this picture than many think. It's only removing some snowsticks and working on contrast and tones - it's almost OOC.

I've took this photo last winter in Upper Austria - I've been driving two hours to catch some falling snow on this day.Time
I've shot this photo in the late morning during heavy snowfall - so I was glad to have enough light coming through all that heavy clouds.Lighting
The sky was covered with heavy clouds, but the real reason I've been using my external flashlight was to get these circular shaped snowflake reflections as I didn't want to them in post processing but in camera instead.Equipment
I've used a Canon 5d Mk iii, a Canon 70-200/4 L IS and a Canon Speedlite 580EX II.Inspiration
I always wanted to try to get a real winter snowing scene in camera instead of post processing it. I was happy to find these trees during the heavy snow falls on this day so I could complete one of my photographic tasks. Later I've experimented with in camera multiple exposures as well. Stay tuned for the results.Editing
I've increased contrast and did a black and white conversion in Photoshop. Some snow sticks were retouched as well, but that was the only retouching work - all the rest has been done in camera. In my camera bag
Canon 5d Mkiii, Canon 16-35/4 L IS, Canon 50/1.4, Canon 135/2 L, Canon 180/3.5 L macro, Canon 400/2.8 L IS USM, bean bag, Sirui and Berlebach tripods, reflectors and diffusors, gradient filters, polarization filter and sometimes my external flash Canon Speedlite 580EX IIFeedback
This idea has been roaming my thoughts for many years, but as I am an amateur it's not easy to find the right conditions for such a shot as it doesn't snow that much here around Vienna.I've jumped in my car to drive two hours one Sunday as there were some heavy snowfalls expected in Upper Austria and I just had to find a nice location to get one of the shots I wanted to have. The external flash has worked very well to get these big snow bokeh circles so I was quite happy at the end of the day. If you have an idea for a shot be prepared when conditions are fine! Don't be lazy if you have to opportunity to do it :).
