My Myrtle Beach studio, I painted the walls and chip board floor whiteTime
Early afternoon as the model was a performer with a local theater and preferred to rest in the morningsLighting
I used only one monolight, a Novatron M500 bare bulb laying on the floor with cardboard sheets to create the barn door effect. I was a novice having only opened my first studio several months prior (circa September 2003) and had very little pro equipment so I improvised a lot with household items.Equipment
Mamiya 7II with a 125mm lens, Ilford Delta film and one Novatrom m500 for lightingInspiration
I had just opened my first studio, my childhood idol was and still is Herb Ritts, he was the master of black and white compositions and his flair for combining fashion and fine art was my dream to pursue. So I hired models or worked with willing friends and played around with shapes and shadows.Editing
I had a photo lab develop the negatives then I played with the enlarger in the darkroom, using Ilford paper and adding contrast with red filters. In my camera bag
Depends on the job. For work I always have a Nikon kit either 750 or 800 (getting 850 for Christmas) with several primes and a 70-200, Nikon 910 speedlights and rogue flash benders. If I am shooting for personal work then it's usually film, Kodak Tri-x has been a recent favorite and my Fujinon GX680IIIFeedback
Experiment and play around until you see something you like, be inspired by others but fins your own style
