Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at my room.

Time

It was night.

Lighting

The light from the left comes from a normal lamp. The main light is from the lighter.

Equipment

My camera is a Nikon D5100 and the 35mm 1.8G Nikkor lens. No flash was used

Inspiration

I think I was probably inspired by some 90's cigarettes commercials with western influences.

Editing

I used gradiend filters to lighten the hat and the hands and most importanly I made the white balance cooler than the original in order to achieve a more "winter" feeling.

In my camera bag

I have my Nikon D5100 along with the kit lens 18-55mm plus the 35mm 1.8G and a manual 50mm 1.4E. All nikkor.

Feedback

I think that when it comes to "smoking-photos", the smoke must be one of the basic elements. So a good light to pop out the smoke is needed, maybe a backlight or anything, depending on the situation. Beard and hat are optional, but it all about character...
