Behind The Lens

Location

4 years ago (2016) during a meetup group at a BIG studio in South Houston. I was so new at learning photography but I was also VERY hungry to learn.

Time

Our photography and models group met around 2 pm. The photo was taken at 2:31 pm while makeup artists and photographers were finishing setting up.

Lighting

There was this 1 light that happened to be angled just right. I was a nervous photographer working in a large group with other photographers and models. I kindly asked the model if she would be ok if I snapped a quick photo of her, I even have a photo of the Makeup artist still working on her.

Equipment

This photo was taken handheld with my first camera a D7200. The lens was a 55-300 F/4.5-5.6 without flash.

Inspiration

All the Ladies were so beautiful. I was really excited about learning how to photograph a model with lighting. I didn't even have my own lighting. I wanted to try anything the other photographers were doing.

Editing

My Post-processing consisted of 3 things: 1. The top left corner of the photo was part of a lightbox showing. I photoshopped it out and gave the photo a vignette to help hide the darkness. 2. Skin smoothing. 3. Added a little more vibrance and contrast.

In my camera bag

Currently, I hold a D750, a 50mm Primary lens, and a Neewer TT560 Speedlite. I also keep my Lensball on hand for those "just in case" creative moments.

Feedback

When I look back at photos I've taken in relation to what I photograph today, it's okay to try something you've never done before. You might be surprised by what you fall in love with.
