Location
I took this shot in a very "low-cost" and "portable" studio I made over at my fiancee's parents house. I was very bored and decided to do something creative.Time
This was pretty time consuming, as I was teaching my fiancee how to take these kinds of shots. It took us about 3 hours to properly set up the desk lamp and the camera location. By the time I took this shot, it was about 19:00 (7:00 pm) durring winter time, so quite dark :)Lighting
I wish I had some cooler lightbulbs at the time. This lighting set up consisted of a dark room (late in the day/ night) and a dollar store desk lamp :) Nothing else. The lighting might have also been affected by the semi glossy table top finish, but not as much as one may think.Equipment
I used my one and only Nikon D7000, with the 35mm prime lens from Nikkor, a Hoya UV / PL-CIR filter (ambient reflection control), no flash, no tripod. The camera was placed on the table ledge, in a way that the bottom half of the lens had partial view blocking. This allowed me to take a very low postioned photo such as this one.Inspiration
My main inspiration for this photo was boredom! I had nothing to do so I decided to experiment with my camera.Editing
I did some color correction to eliminate the background objects such as window curtains, walls and the like. I did not have a black backdrop, so in this case I had to paint some areas black. I also tried to bring out the whites in the photo, but it did not turn 100% the way I wanted. In my camera bag
My standard set is the Nikon D7000 body, 35mm prime, the 18-105 vr kit, and additional batteries. I rarely bring along my tripod. I am also in the process of getting a flash!Feedback
Play arround with camera position! Don't be afraid to cover part of the lens, and remember to keep the setup clean. Dust will have a negative effect on the shot (unless of course you strive for an old, dusty effect). Try to use things like mirrors, shiny surfaces, and anyhting else that has a reflection.
