Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photograph in my home studio in Cedar Park. It was my first glamour shoot. The model did her own hair and makeup and I handmade her tulle skirt.

Time

This photo was taken in the afternoon at a time when I got the best light in my home studio.

Lighting

The photograph was taken using no artificial light or reflector, just all natural light. My home studio gets a lot of natural light. I had 2 huge windows camera right and a huge window opposite the model.

Equipment

Canon 5D Mark iii and Canon 70-200 f/2.8 ii. My model sat on a stool with an apple box propping her legs a little.

Inspiration

I am a huge Sue Bryce fan and think she absolutely captures a woman's beauty perfectly. I think every woman is beautiful in her own way regardless of skin color or size. I wanted to do a session that would best bring out how beautiful Morgan (my model) was.

Editing

I did do some post processing but it was very minimal with some adjustments to exposure and a little skin smoothing.

In my camera bag

I try to keep my photography simple. I usually just have my Canon 5D Mark IV and my go to lens, 70-200 mm f/2.8 ii. I also will pack my Canon 35 mm f/1.2 and Canon 50 mm f/1.2.

Feedback

There was a lot of pre-planning for me with this shoot. I actually thought about how I was going to do it for months. My advice for others would be to make sure your subject is comfortable. If they are not comfortable it will show. I also think a pep talk beforehand about how beautiful they are as a person would help. Remember you are trying to best capture your subject's beauty. And above all, have fun!!
