Location
This was another one of my photos taken at Portobello Beach, Edinburgh.Time
Taken near the end of the day when the sun was not quite setting.Lighting
The sun was on the left of this photo. I thought the sun shining down on the clouds from above gave for an interesting light effect on the tops of the clouds. I did darken this image for the effect of a futuristic feel.Equipment
I used my Canon Powershot SX720 only for this shot.Inspiration
I was walking along the shore and always make a point of looking back in the opposite direction for anything interesting. On this occasion, I found this cloud formation. It looked like the wings of a large bird swooping across the sky. I had to take the opportunity to capture. I haven't seen anything like it before, or since.Editing
I did increase the contrast and the saturation. I also darkened the image to enhance the bird-like cloud formation. I then added the effect of Ventura on Aviary to give it that futuristic effect. It was perfect, not only for the formation of the clouds and the light against it, but also to give the sand a burnt and baked feel. It produced a Portobello Beach no one had ever seen before. In my camera bag
I usually carry my battery charger, extra batteries, case and props. And of course, my Canon Powershot.Feedback
As mentioned previously, I had turned in the opposite direction hoping to find something interesting. You never know what you might find. So, it's always wise to look back and to the sides for a surprise photo opportunity. It will pay off, not every time, but you just might find that perfect shot. Patience is always a great thing! Taking time out to sit and take in your surroundings and watch everything around you can create an opportunity for something interesting to capture. Patience is a virtue!
