Location
Located deep in the Karijini National, Hancock Gorge, Isolated region of Western AustraliaTime
Slight cloud cover and the looming rock walls gave little cover from the harsh Australian desert sun. This photo was taken around noon.Lighting
A harsh lighting from the sun gave the sky an extremely bright glow with its details only picked up on the surface of the mirror-like water.Equipment
This was shot on my GoPro Hero 4 silver, the extreme difficulty crossing the ‘spider walk’ made it almost impossible to carry large expensive camera equipment.Inspiration
The presence of such an oasis in Western Australia truly captured what the ‘wet season’ brings to this harsh climate allowing plants and animals to flourish. The difficulty of carrying heavy backpacks above our heads and wading through the neck high water was soon realised upon capturing the image if we were to progress further into the gorge. The colour of the rock against the water really captured my eye and simply had to be captured!Editing
Slight colour colour correction and contrast was needed to fully bring out the ‘in person’ colours considering the camera was not of top end quality. The harsh lighting also needed to be dimmed post capture. In my camera bag
At the time taken my equipment bag only consisted of a GoPro Hero 4 silver. I believe it’s not the gear that creates and amazing photo but rather the story and adventure behind the image such as the one to travel to such a remote but beautiful location that people may never witness seen in my image!Feedback
Be prepared for a hell of a journey with flat tyres and true Aussie spirit. Not going to ruin details as half the adventure is figuring it out for yourself!
